Juvenile Justice Community Forum Campbelltown
Wiimpatja TSD & Consultancy just completed its first Juvenile Justice Community Forum at Campbelltown, 4th of July 2018. The Forum was directed at Aboriginal Community members to come along and express their observations, concerns, understanding and experiences with the JJ system in Campbelltown including, Denise Hanley who is the regional Director Metropolitan Southern Region, Michael Vita the Manager at Cobham. We had a number of the line managers of the JJs service from across the region in attendance and they respectfully sat and listened to the heartfelt, honest expressions and conversations from the Campbelltown Community.
We had a great turn out, Ray Weatherall did a beautiful opening and closing Smoking Ceremony. Dr Mike Freelander who is also the State Member of parliament (Macarthur) did a very insightful address as part of the opening.
Very successful day with up to 80 participants coming along and voicing their thoughts. Well done to everyone involved, change is afoot and we have started the Ball rolling. See you at the next one in about 6 months’ time. Thanks to the Wiimpatja team and Billy Bell and Mark Huddleston from the Aboriginal Unit at JJ’s for your great support.
